Students in grades 1, 2, and 3 at Alliance Charter Elementary School have been learning about the Caldecott Award. For this project, students focused on David Shannon's honor book No, David! Students looked at the illustration techniques used by Shannon -- child-like drawings and the use of inferences -- to create there own illustrations. Mrs. McMahon was a little nervous that our Alliance students wouldn't have any "naughty" behavior to draw from, but the students assured her they had all, at least once, done something naughty. Many students drew from their own, personal experiences when creating their illustrations. And of course, despite all the naughty things David does, Mom still loves him.
